6,000 Age of universe and earth from people who believe in Young Creationism
4,500,000,000 Age of earth from science (4.5 billion years)
13,800,000,000,000 Age of universe from science (13.8 billion years)
The Catholic Church holds no official position on the theory of creation or evolution, leaving the specifics of either theistic evolution or literal creationism to the individual within certain parameters established by the Church.
I believe in Evolutionary Creationism, which is very similar to Theistic Evolution. Evolutionary Creationism is a view that God acts and creates through laws of nature. God is taken as the primary cause while natural causes are secondary, positing that the concept of God and religious beliefs are compatible with the findings of modern science, including evolution. It rejects the strict creationist doctrines of special creation, but can include beliefs such as creation of the human soul. Modern theistic evolution accepts the general scientific consensus on the age of the Earth, the age of the universe, the Big Bang, the origin of the Solar System, the origin of life, and evolution.
Young Earth Creationism: Supernatural creation in literal six days, Earth is about 6,000 years old, Bible is literal and inerrant, rejects most mainstream science.
Old Earth Creationism: Supernatural creation over long ages, Earth is about 13.8 billion years old, Bible is interpreted, accepts much mainstream science but not common descent.
Day-age Creationism: An interpretation of the creation account in the Book of Genesis, suggesting that each 'day' of creation represents a long period of time, potentially millions of years, rather than a literal 24-hour day. This view aims to reconcile the biblical creation narrative with scientific evidence, particularly in relation to geology and evolutionary biology.
Progressive creationism: A view within creationism that accepts the age of the Earth and universe as determined by mainstream science, while maintaining the belief that God created new forms of life over millions of years, rather than in a short 6-day period. It views creation as occurring in rapid bursts of miraculous creation followed by periods of stability, allowing for natural evolutionary processes to shape those created forms.
Theistic Evolution/Evolutionary Creationism: God created and guides evolution, Earth is about 13.8 billion years old, Bible is inspired but not always literal, accepts all mainstream science.
Atheistic Evolution: No God, purely natural processes, Earth is about 13.8 billion years old, rejects supernatural explanations, accepts all mainstream science.
